This futuristic concept introduces an innovative approach to discovering and experiencing the sense of smell. Although the importance of the sense of smell for organisms has diminished over the course of evolution, this project restores it to its original significance. Using three finger-receptor pads and a receiver placed in the nasal area, the project allows us to explore the world of scents in a bolder and safer way, all through our hands. The receiver generates weak electric currents that stimulate the respective receptors in the nose and transmit the fragrance composition coming from the caps.
The caps are activated by placing their receptor sides towards the fingertips and deactivated by placing them towards the palm of the hand. In this way, the user can regulate the intensity of the perceived scent by applying successive fingers. This project opens up new possibilities for exploring, learning and building valuable experiences of smells, enabling humans to return to the roots of this important sense.
The project was created as a collaboration between students from the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts and the Botanical Garden of the University of Warsaw, where the exhibition took place.
